These wood composite shutters put a new material spin on an old favorite. Traditionally, batten and board shutters have been manufactured from natural wood materials – namely red and white cedar – and then sealed, stained and painted for outdoor performance. Now, with the availability of contemporary composite materials, Hooks & Lattice is proud to make batten and board shutters available in a virtual maintenance-free format.
Available here in various standard sizes, wood composite shutters can also be manipulated to suit a range of custom preferences. Customers can begin by choosing a width that is suited to their home, with 12", 15" and 18" wide measurements available online. Additionally, the number of battens is flexible for varying tastes. Shutters can be created with combinations of two, three or four horizontal or Z-bar battens. Popular styles are pictured above.
In addition to the already sophisticated style of batten and board shutters, homeowners and builders can add further distinction with the addition of custom cutouts. Varying from shapes like diamonds and stars, to depictions of sailboats and palm trees, putting in a cutout is a fun way to make your home shutters stand apart from the rest. Cutouts can be added for an additional charge.
Wood composite shutters are made from a combination of 90% wood with other materials that are naturally resistant to rotting. In outdoor settings where moisture is inevitable, composite materials have become and increasingly attractive alternative to wood. These products are also resistant to termites and inherently unattractive to most bugs.
Perhaps the best thing about batten and board shutters manufactured in a wood composite is that they keep all the charm of natural wood, without any of the maintenance. These shutters do not require sealing or painting for weather protection, and will give long-lasting charm to home exteriors. Board and battens are a natural complement to traditional and rustic homes with European-inspired architecture and this style works with a variety of exterior materials including brick, vinyl and stucco. For cottages and country homes, wood composite shutters carry all the air of natural wood materials to gel with a rustic aesthetic. Wherever these shutters make their home, they add a little extra, wonderful something.
