Hotel del Coronado

The challenge of this project, for one of the most beloved historic hotels in the United States, was to remain true to the all-wood aesthetic of the site while providing exceptional quality and durability. Planters Unlimited solved this with our Premier Cellular PVC material in a custom design that complements the traditional look of the hotel. We created many planters in various square and rectangular sizes for installation around the grounds. Thanks to the Cellular PVC construction, the planters will resist warping, cracking, and rotting while looking indistinguishable from wood. They add old-world elegance to the site without adding maintenance headaches. This planter style is now available for your project, listed as the Coronado.

Hilton Miami Downtown
1601 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132
Standing tall and elegant over the busy city of Miami, the Hilton Miami Downtown features a rooftop pool and patio with stunning skyline views. A neighboring rooftop, however, was less attractive, and the hotel wanted to mask that portion of the view. Planters Unlimited created a custom artificial boxwood hedge to encircle the patio – just high enough to block sightlines to the undesirable part of the view, but short enough to allow an unobstructed view of the rest of the city. The outdoor-rated artificial boxwood featured UV protection impregnated in the plastic itself, allowing it to stand up to the Florida sun.

Jai by Wolfgang Puck
2910 La Jolla Village Dr, La Jolla, CA 92037
Surrounded by a lush eucalyptus grove in lovely La Jolla, California, Wolfgang Puck's Jai restaurant sought to define an outdoor seating area in a style that blended the natural and the contemporary. Planters Unlimited designed the Urban Chic Premier Contemporary Planter to fit this project. With clean lines and a sophisticated white finish, the planters are also mildew- and rot-proof thanks to their Cellular PVC construction – a feature that's very important in La Jolla's coastal fog. Jai filled the planters with bamboo stalks, coordinating with the restaurant's existing decor and Asian fusion cuisine.

Little Italy
2210 Columbia Street, San Diego, CA 92101
This "hip and historic urban neighborhood" just north of downtown San Diego has undergone major redevelopment since the late 1990s, honoring its rich Italian-American heritage and its new life as a design and entertainment district. The pedestrian-friendly neighborhood beautified its streets with over 300 of Planters Unlimited's 22" English Garden Hanging Baskets. Planted with bright red and pink geraniums, these hanging baskets add color and life to the sidewalks and delight visitors, residents, and business owners alike. The added reservoir systems make upkeep a breeze, reducing the frequency of watering.

UCSD
9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093
One of the top public universities in the nation, UCSD was built in the 1960s and 1970s in a eucalyptus grove. Recently, the student center underwent a major renovation, remodeling existing structures and adding new ones. Inspired by the wooded setting, Public Architecture and Planning went for a "tree house" look, with warm, natural woods throughout. One existing concrete wall got the green treatment with custom redwood planters by Planters Unlimited, suspended by a unique bracket system. Public's design was honored by American Institute of Architects' San Diego chapter.

Niagara Parks
Niagara Falls, Ontario
On the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, the park service was completing a new visitor center and a long bridge for foot traffic. To beautify the location, the design called for flowering plants along both sides of the bridge. Planters Unlimited's Laguna Premier Composite Planters matched traditional design with the durability necessary to withstand cold, wet winters while meeting budget and schedule. As an added bonus, Planters Unlimited created two sets of removable fiberglass liners for the planters, which would allow the park service to begin planting in a greenhouse and rotate plants from season to season, maintaining the bridge's landscaping year round.

Private Residence
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Featured in Florida Design magazine, this condo in The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton Ft. Lauderdale offers 360-degree views of the water. The patio's clean, contemporary design called for planters that would look great while enduring the Floridian elements. Our Modern Rectangular and Square Fiberglass Planters in a rich deep brown were the perfect accent piece.
