Historically Correct Exterior Shutter Hardware
Historically, shutter dogs served as functional hardware that allowed shutters to be held open during the nice weather, enabling visibility and air circulation. Then, on rainy or cold days the shutters could be released with a simple turn of the shutter dog. Nowadays, most homes boast purely ornamental shutters. However, you can add a touch of historical authenticity with these beautifully beveled "S" shaped shutter dogs. They come in a black powder coat finish that gives them a truly classic look as well as protecting them from inclement weather. Even in very rainy or moist coastal regions, you can count on this shutter hardware to keep its perfectly elegant appeal for years and years without rusting or corroding. With a beautifully intricate curving "S" form, these shutter holdbacks are hand forged from durable 304 series stainless steel. With these shutter dogs you get the look of true heirloom accents only more long lasting and sturdy than a true antique. Often specified on historical and restoration projects, our shutter hardware looks just like the originals but will work better.
With this pair of shutter dogs we include everything you will need to install fully functioning hardware, even if your shutters are flush mounted. Included with each hold back is a lag bolt, washer, and cotter pin. For accurate installation, mount each shutter dog 1" below and 4" in from the shutter's outer edge.
